St. Dominic Parish hosted the event on Saturday November 3, 2018 at the Murphy Hall with a “Day of Recollection” and invitation to Renew through Growth through the Vincentian Pathway. Father Bruce Krause was the keynote speaker and explored in his presentation such items as Friendship, Leadership, Home visit, the Vincentian Virtues as well as Spiritualty through the teaching of St. Vincent de Paul and scripture. He conducted small group discussion to enable SVDP members to enhance their understanding and how to improve our own lives as well as those they serve through servant leadership.

Seventy five individuals from across the Mobile county attended the retreat to include members from St. Dominic, St. Thomas, St. Ignatius, St. Mary, the cathedral and several other parishes.

Bingo

The Ladies Auxiliary to the Knights of Columbus hold Bingo on Saturdays periodically throughout the year.  The Ladies traditionally take the proceeds and donate it to a worthy cause such as the need for the church or helping with financial support for the St. Vincient de Paul financial requirements to those in need.    Mary Coate, Sarah Beck, Diana Cole, Angie Wilkie, Bee Ruhe and Claire Andrews often take the Saturday off to support these events.

St. Vincent de Paul Walk for the Poor 9/29/2018

On Saturday, September 29, several parishes took time to show their support for the St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) Walk for the Poor.  This walk has been sponsored for the last eleven years to bring awareness to the Poor in our own community as well as those throughout the Mobile County Archdiocese.   This was the first year that St. Thomas’s SVDP participated in the walk along with members from St. Ignatius, Heart of Mary, St. Lawrence and St. James Major parishes.   According to Mr. George Murr who headed up the walk our parish, along with St. Bridget’s were able to raise about $800 help contribute to this worthy cause.

Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus (Council 13174) have reached out to their members to help with a quarterly cleaning of the St. Thomas Church.   It is a change from men working with power tools to vacuum cleaners, however this is the direction that the President of our local chapter (Don Fogarty) is performing to fulfill the role of Servant Leadership for our Church.   The Knights also had some help from the Ladies junior Auxiliary Club as well.   If you want more information  or would like to join  please contact the staff at 251-452-9837.

St. Vincent de Paul

The Society’s nearly 100,000 trained volunteers in the United States provided 12.6 million hours of volunteer service in 2017, helping more than 5.4 million people through visits to homes, prisons and hospitals at a value of more than $3 billion dollars. “A network of friends, inspired by Gospel values, growing in holiness and building a more just world through personal relationships with and service to people in need.”

The local chapter of St. Vincent de Paul is located in the old school cafeteria St. Thomas Catholic parish and managed by dedicated volunteers who continue to minister to those in need.  Members of our local chapter have successfully provided the North Mobile County’s poor with provision and food stock from the food bank.   This organization is 100% volunteer and they gladly give their time and energy to faithfully live the values of Christian giving.

Seen below are volunteers providing food orders to our community.    For more information on how you can help, please call (251) 458 4578.  Volunteers are welcomed.

Fundraiser at Momma Goldberg’s

Great fun and fellowship at our latest fundraiser.  Also shown is Father William Saucier accepting a check for $113.35 from Ashley McNorton, the General Manager Momma Goldberg’s.  The St. Thomas social event on Wednesday, September 19 was a success.   It was a great opportunity to have the parishioners sit down with one another to talk, have a great meal and a great way to have fun while fundraising.    A number of parishioners want to know when we will next have an event at Momma Goldberg’s.

Knights of Columbus July 1, 2018

New officers for the Knights of Columbus, 13174, St. Thomas Chickasaw were sworn in Sunday July 1, following the 11 O’clock Mass.   During this event new members of this organization took the pledge to live the faith of a Catholic and commit themselves to helping the community.

Mr. Don Fogarty accepted the position of Grand Knight from Mr. Tim Creamer who has served in the leadership role for last five terms.  Don appreciates the hard work of Tim and would like to continue the success of the organization by increasing the participation of the membership through engagement and Servant leadership.   Don is also a member of the St. Thomas Men of St. Joseph and contributes his time and energy to the success of the parish by being actively involved in some of the events hosted by St. Thomas.  Events like the “Kraken Fish Fry” during lent are the reason why this church is seeing a success in attendance and parishioners being actively involved in the church. Before leaving his post as the Grand Knight, Mr. Creamer had the opportunity to present several well-earned awards to a number of well deserving individuals.

In addition to the Men of KOC the Ladies Auxiliary also installed some of their officers as well.    Mrs. Mary Coate, a long-time member of the organization and a strong supporter of social and special events, was installed as the President and pledged her continued support for the group.

The members of St. Thomas wish the best for these two well founded organizations.   Through prayer and active engagement, we can foresee this council expanding outside the church and helping those in need and the local community.
