Learning more about our Parish Family\u2019s History<\/p>\n

Rev. Andrew J. Stauter<\/strong><\/p>\n

He was St. Bridget’s parish priest during 1970 \u2013 1977, 1985 \u2013 1986 and 1987 \u2013 1996. Then in the middle of his time as parish priest at St. Bridget he was sent to St. Thomas the Apostle to be their parish priest from 1980 to 1983.<\/p>\n

He was a native of Mobile and his family lived off Palmetto Street. As a small boy he attended St. Vincent\u2019s Academy, which was located\u00a0on the corner of Lawrence and Charleston Street, where he was taught by the Daughter\u2019s of Charity. Then he attended McGill Institute, where he was taught by Brothers of the Sacred Heart.<\/p>\n

The Knights of Columbus sponsored a Trunk Or Treat again this year and it was a fun success for the kids and the kids at heart.\u00a0<\/p>\n

St. Thomas the Apostle’s 7th grade girls CCD class had fun painting pumpkins while learning about HallowTide; the Catholic roots of Halloween and the importance of All Saints and Souls days.<\/p>\n

St. Thomas the Apostle Parish recognized these Vincentians who faithfully served the poor in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul; Angie Wilkie, Gloria Otto and Mary Kay Smith. Each Vincentian received\u00a0their Jubilarian Crucifix.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our R.C.I.A members attended the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion liturgy Sunday at the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi greeted each catechumen and candidate as they continue on their path to being received into the Church during the Easter Vigil Mass. Please pray for and welcome our catechumens and candidates and thank you to all sponsors for playing an important role in their faith journey (Some verbiage and the picture of Archbishop Rodi were shared from the Catholic Week).<\/p>\n

February 2024 –\u00a0<\/strong>The Feast of Candlemas was celebrated on February 2nd with Fr. Saucier blessing Beeswax candles.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Counting forward from December 25 as Day One, we find that Day Forty is February 2. In accordance with Leviticus 12, a Jewish woman lived in semi-seclusion for 40 days after giving birth to a son, and accordingly it is on February 2 (or the closest Sunday) that we celebrate the coming of Mary and Joseph with the infant Jesus to the Temple at the conclusion of that time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Holy Family was in Jerusalem to offer sacrifice, both on behalf of Mary (for her purification) and on behalf of Jesus (for redemption in accordance with Exodus 13) as a first-born male. As they did so, they were greeted by the aged Simeon and Anna who prophesied that Jesus would be \u201ca light to the Gentiles and the Glory of Israel.\u201d \u00a0We celebrate the light of Christ that brings our redemption with candles today. We do this symbolically in the liturgy to remind us that we are to take forth His light into the world! We also begin to look forward to Jesus’ purifying us in Lent.\u00a0<\/p>\n
